Student Life

With an environment that is an abundance of activity and excitement, St. Winifred’s School is a place where students build friendships, learn responsibility and work hard in a safe, secure environment. Whatever we are doing, we seek to make it interesting and relevant as we strive to create an educational experience with happy memories that last a lifetime.

Student Character

The tradition of our school has always been the development of the whole person. Activities and assemblies focus on developing important character skills including empathy, integrity, respect for others and self, responsibility, honesty, compassion and perseverance.

From fun spirit days to Community Outreach Programmes, Inter-House rivalry and fun teacher vs. student competitions, we believe that it is important to have our teachers, along with the entire student body being involved together.

End of term fun activities include: teacher vs. student matches, Inter House Quiz Competitions; Popcorn & Movie Day, form trips, House matches.

Sports Days

Our school boasts three separate Sports Days for our Prep, Junior and Senior departments. These are exciting days and family members, and former students join us in their coloured shirts to cheer on their Houses. The Sports days are the most popular days of the school year and students have a wonderful time in the outdoors competing with each other. In our Senior Sports Days there are cheerleading performances, painted faces and coloured hair as the excitement of this day concludes the three Sports days. Wonderful memories are created every year on these days.

The Link

Students in the Senior department can access their own accounts on our cloud-based platform, called the Link. Seniors also can sign the BYOD policy (Bring Your Own Device) and use their own laptops at school to work on assignments, projects etc.  Parents of Juniors and Preps can sign on to the Link to see their child's school profile, test dates and homework assignments. Prep parents get weekly email updates to let them know what is going on in their child’s class.

Dramatic Arts

SWS is renowned for its Pantomime Productions which traditionally have run every other academic year. Our performances, often with a cast of about 100 students, have received rave reviews and we can boast sold out performances during each production run. The St. Winifred's Pantomime has a long and beautiful history that dates as far back as 1969, when the first Pantomime entitled 'Mother Goose' was produced by Anna Adamira.

Held every other year on the enchanting island of Barbados and on the compounds of St. Winifred's School, our Pantomime is certainly a must-see. This purposeful event reaps such success that it is one of the ways in which our school is able to assist itself in supporting our students’ programmes.

Rehearsals for the Pantomime take place as early as July with the help of a group of dedicated students who perform an impressive balancing act between rehearsals and their school work.

Beginners

Our Three Year Old Unit (Prep 1)

Young children learn through interaction with each other and through the exploration of the world around them. Playing and learning together help to build social skills, language skills, fosters self-control, and helps them develop emotionally.
